The Pazo del Souto is located in the Plaza neighborhood. The farms that belonged to this pazo once covered an area of no less than 400 hectares, which is why they comprised a good part of the current parish of Arantei.
Los Barros are an ancient lineage that took root in the provinces of Ourense and Pontevedra, where they had important houses like this one. The Barros of the area of Ponteareas and Salvaterra de Miño would come from Braga, as corroborated by the weapons shown on the coat of arms of the house, and appear here linked to the Troncoso de Lira, a prolific lineage with a wide presence in the province. Navarrese surnames also entered the family, such as Quiquieri and Arquiaga, which gave rise to a Carlist affiliation that caused that during the so-called Carlist wars the house had been abandoned.
The pazo, which is supposed to be from the 16th century, is a sober rectangular two-storey building with a mixed factory, made of ashlar masonry and masonry, with a closing wall that is interrupted in the façade and borders the road from which the farm is accessed. . The embrasures on the lower floor suggest that it may once have been a defensive construction.
The coat of arms, magnificently carved, is found between the two windows of the upper floor of the house, and shows the arms of the Barros, Troncoso de Lira and Sotomayor.
It is currently in the hands of three families, and is in a good state of preservation.
