The parish is located on the slopes of Monte Castelo, where remains of a fort are preserved in the place known as "mount of thieves", between this parish and that of Pesqueiras.
An oil lamp, made of bronze with a duck head handle, shows that the territory of this parish has been inhabited since ancient times.
The first written documentary reference of this parish is found in the donation of King Bermudo II on May 24, 991. In this primitive document he is called Finuleito.
The Avalle family originate from this parish. His family home is strategically located in the vicinity of Monte Castelo. This family had a prominent role during the fight against the French during the War of Independence and participated in the Carlist fights as supporters of the infant Don Carlos.
A member of the Avalle family appears as representative of the Cidade de Tui at the Xunta de A Coruña held on June 5, 1808. Later he was a deputy in court in 1813, he defended the interests of the conservatives since he opposed the ideals of liberalism.
