Arantei Parish

Parish of "ARANTEI"

When the Miño river passes through this parish, the mouth of the Tea river takes place, in the A Fillaboa area. The Miño river has always been an important source of resources for its neighbors, in fact, as early as 1451, a “pesqueira” in Arantei was owned by the Bishop of Tui.

In 991, in the donation made by King Bermudo II to the Church of Santiago de Compostela, the parish of “Asantei” appears, the original name of Arantei.

It is an eminently wine parish, its wines made within the extensive property known as the "Quinta da Fillaboa" stand out.

A local legend tells that the count had three daughters, the two eldest belittled the youngest, adorned with virtues that caused them envy and made her worthy of receiving the "terras fartas da Fillaboa", origin of the place name.

Until the 19th century, this domain belonged to the Count of Salvatierra, who had in this "Granxa da Fillaboa" one of its main control centers for its territories.

In the 17th century, coinciding with the Portuguese occupation of Salvaterra, the Spanish army built a fort in the vicinity of the property. There are no remains of this building. The purpose of this watchtower was to cut communications with Tui.
