As its name suggests, it was empty territory nestled between small rivers and dense pine forests. It is a central land of the municipality, full of mountains. Its territory is crossed by small streams, such as that of Mariñeira and its highest summit is Mount Libadouro, 152 meters above sea level.
Like so many other places in this region, Soutolobre was donated with its church and men in 991 by King Bermudo II to the Compostela church.
